Xi Jinping Confident in Macao’s New Chapter with Sam Hou Fai
Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed strong confidence in Macao’s newly sworn-in Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai. At a meeting on Friday, Xi praised Sam’s leadership and expressed optimism about Macao’s future under his guidance.
Xi believes that Sam will lead Macao’s government and its diverse community in fully implementing the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. This principle allows Macao to maintain a high degree of autonomy while being part of China. It’s a unique arrangement that has helped Macao flourish over the years.
The president highlighted his expectations for Macao to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. He also encouraged efforts to diversify the economy and improve the well-being of its people.
“Macao has unique advantages,” Xi said. “I am confident that under Sam’s leadership, it will better integrate into our nation’s overall development and deepen cooperation with other countries and regions.”
Xi assured that the central government will fully support Sam and the Macao SAR (Special Administrative Region) government in their responsibilities.
Sam Hou Fai expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him. He pledged to break new ground in the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macao.
The meeting was also attended by other officials, including Cai Qi.
