At least nine people died on Sunday when a small plane crashed in the tourist city of Gramado, located in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, authorities said.
“There are nine deaths confirmed by the civil defense, and there are no survivors of the plane,” Cleber dos Santos Lima, director of the Interior Police Department of the state civil police, told AFP.
The plane was approaching Gramado’s airport when it crashed under heavy fog conditions, according to local reports. Emergency services responded swiftly, but there were no survivors.
Gramado is a popular tourist destination known for its picturesque landscapes and European-inspired architecture. The tragedy has shocked the local community and visitors alike.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.
