Journey of Self-Discovery: Yu Hanlun Reconnects with Roots on China-Laos Railway

When the China-Laos Railway launched in 2021, it didn’t just connect two countries—it bridged gaps within hearts. For Yu Hanlun, a young ethnic Dai train attendant, the railway became a path to self-discovery.

Growing up, Yu felt disconnected from her Dai heritage. Joining the railway crew introduced her to the diverse cultures along the route. As she traveled across the scenic landscapes between China and Laos, she embraced her roots, learning traditional customs and languages.

“Working on the railway has given me confidence and a deeper understanding of who I am,” Yu shares with a smile.

Over the past three years, Yu’s journey has been more than just a job. It’s been a personal transformation, reconnecting with her culture and inspiring others to explore their identities.

The China-Laos Railway stands as a symbol of connectivity—not just in infrastructure but in uniting people and cultures.
