Monza, currently at the bottom of Italy’s Serie A standings, has appointed Salvatore Bocchetti as their new manager following the departure of Alessandro Nesta. The club announced the decision on Monday, hoping to revive their season after a series of disappointing results.
With only one league win this season, Monza is eager for a turnaround. Nesta was dismissed after a 2-1 home defeat to Juventus on Sunday, marking the team’s third consecutive loss and ninth in 17 games. The club has gone nine matches without a victory since their sole win against Verona in October.
Bocchetti, who has signed a contract until June 2027, brings limited managerial experience. His only prior role was as a caretaker coach at Hellas Verona in 2022, where he oversaw six games without securing a win. Despite this, Monza is confident that he can make a positive impact on the team.
Nesta, a former Italy international and celebrated defender with Lazio and AC Milan, stepped into the managerial role at Monza after Raffaele Palladino left for Fiorentina at the end of last season. It was his first stint managing in Serie A.
Looking ahead, Monza faces a crucial match against Parma on Saturday. Parma sits 17th in the standings, five points ahead of Monza. Fans are hopeful that Bocchetti’s leadership will inspire the team to secure much-needed points and climb the league table.
