Michael Chang’s team emerged victorious at the MGM Macau Tennis Masters on Wednesday, defeating Team Li Na 11-6 in an exhilarating finale in Macau, China.
Entering the second day with a narrow 4-3 lead, Team Michael Chang quickly expanded their advantage. The competitions began with the captain challenge match, where Chang himself secured a win, pushing the score to 5-3.
Next up was the women’s singles battle. Karolína Muchová from the Czech Republic faced off against China’s Wang Xinyu. Muchová dominated the first set 6-3 and showcased resilience in the second, saving three set points to win 7-5. This victory extended Team Chang’s lead to 8-3.
The excitement continued with the men’s singles match featuring two of the world’s top players. World No. 8 Andrey Rublev of Russia, representing Team Chang, took on World No. 6 Casper Ruud of Norway from Team Li Na. Rublev secured a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-4, 7-5, marking the third straight win for his team.
In the day’s final event, Li Na entrusted her compatriot Shang Juncheng to face off against Japanese veteran Kei Nishikori. The 19-year-old Shang delivered a solid performance, defeating Nishikori 6-3, 6-4. Despite this win for Team Li Na, the overall score remained in favor of Team Michael Chang, who clinched the title with an 11-6 victory.
