The 2024 Chinese National Sports Directors Conference concluded in Beijing on Wednesday, setting an ambitious path for the nation’s athletic future. Sports leaders from across the country gathered to celebrate the achievements of Chinese athletes over the past year and to strategize for even greater successes in 2025.
Gao Zhidan, director of China’s General Administration of Sport, emphasized the significance of 2025 as the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. “We must work tirelessly to ensure a triumphant conclusion to our plan,” he declared. Gao highlighted the preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games as a top priority, urging all sports administrations to focus their efforts on helping Team China shine on the global stage.
Adding to the momentum, the first National Youth Games for Football, Basketball, and Volleyball took place in Hunan Province’s cities of Changsha and Yueyang in late November. Young talents from every corner of China competed, showcasing the nation’s budding sports stars.
“We are proud and excited about our athletes’ successes in 2024,” said Song Kai, president of the Chinese Football Association. “At the same time, we feel the pressure to improve. Inspired by our Olympic delegation’s outstanding performance at the Paris Games, we’re motivated to rejuvenate Chinese football.”
With ambitious goals and a clear vision, China’s sports community is gearing up for a year that could redefine its place in international athletics.
