Syrian Interior Ministry Says 14 Personnel Killed in Tartus ambush

14 Syrian Interior Ministry Personnel Killed in Tartus Ambush

Damascus, Syria — Fourteen personnel from Syria’s interim Ministry of Interior were killed and ten others injured in a “treacherous ambush” in the northwestern province of Tartus on Wednesday, according to Interior Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman.

The minister, cited by local newspaper Al-Watan, condemned the attack, describing the assailants as “remnants” of the former government. “This cowardly act will not deter us from pursuing our mission to maintain security and protect our citizens,” he said.

The ambush occurred as the officers were carrying out duties aimed at ensuring safety and stability in the region, the ministry reported. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Tartus, a coastal province, has been relatively spared from much of the conflict that has ravaged other parts of Syria over the past decade. However, sporadic violence continues to threaten peace efforts in the war-torn nation.

The interim government has called for unity and vigilance in the face of ongoing security challenges. “We urge all citizens to cooperate with security forces to thwart any attempts that aim to destabilize our country,” Minister Abdul Rahman added.
