Recovery teams have located the second black box from the Azerbaijan Airlines plane that crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, officials announced Thursday.
Russian media, citing a Kazakh official, reported that the discovery could shed light on the cause of the tragic accident. Law enforcement agencies from Russia and Azerbaijan are set to collaborate in the investigation, aiming to uncover how the Embraer 190 aircraft came down.
The plane was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, to Grozny in Russia when it crashed on Wednesday morning near Aktau, a city in western Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan Airlines confirmed that 62 passengers and five crew members were on board at the time of the incident.
According to Kazakhstan’s emergencies ministry, 29 people survived the crash, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.
