Chinese Military Boosts Patrols Near Huangyan Dao Amid Increased Vigilance

BEIJING—The Chinese military has been conducting combat readiness patrols over the territorial waters and airspace surrounding Huangyan Dao, increasing vigilance in the region since December, according to a statement from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command.

The enhanced patrols aim to reinforce China’s sovereignty over the area and ensure stability, the statement said on Sunday. Huangyan Dao, also known internationally as Scarborough Shoal, is located in the South China Sea and has been a focal point of regional attention.

By bolstering patrols, the PLA Southern Theater Command seeks to maintain peace and security in the region. The military emphasizes its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime rights while ensuring safe navigation in the waters near Huangyan Dao.

Since December, the PLA has intensified its presence in the area, reflecting ongoing efforts to monitor and protect China’s territorial interests.

The South China Sea is a crucial trade route, and developments there are closely watched by nations worldwide. The increased patrols underscore the importance of the region to China’s national interests.
