China is taking a significant step forward in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by establishing a new technical committee dedicated to standardizing AI practices. Announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Monday, this move aims to accelerate the development of the AI industry and foster new waves of industrial innovation.
The newly formed committee is tasked with formulating and revising industrial standards for AI-related sectors. Overseen by the ministry, this is the first committee of its kind, marking a new era in China’s approach to AI standardization.
This initiative aligns with decisions made at China’s Central Economic Work Conference in December, which emphasized launching an “AI-plus” initiative and nurturing future industries. By setting clear standards, China hopes to streamline AI development and integration across various sectors.
According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China’s core AI industry reached an impressive scale of 578.7 billion yuan (approximately $79.3 billion) in 2023. This growth is supported by a robust ecosystem of 4,482 enterprises engaged in AI development and application.
The establishment of the technical committee signals China’s commitment to leading in AI innovation and ensuring that advancements benefit both the industry and society as a whole.
