Chinas Cao Yuan Quan Hongchan Named Diving Athletes of the Year

China’s Quan Hongchan and Cao Yuan Shine as World Aquatics’ Divers of the Year

China’s diving stars Quan Hongchan and Cao Yuan have been honored as the 2024 Female and Male Diving Athletes of the Year by World Aquatics, celebrating their remarkable performances over the past year.

At just 17, Quan Hongchan showcased her exceptional talent by securing both the individual and synchronized women’s 10-meter platform titles at the World Championships in Doha. She continued her winning streak by defending her 10-meter platform title at the Paris Olympics, surpassing her long-time partner Chen Yuxi, who finished second. Earlier, the duo had teamed up to claim the synchronized title, demonstrating China’s dominance in the sport.

Chen Yuxi also earned recognition, making the list of best female athletes alongside fellow Chinese divers Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani, who triumphed in the synchronized 3-meter springboard at Paris 2024.

On the men’s side, Cao Yuan claimed the prestigious annual award. Approaching his 30th birthday, Cao topped the men’s 10-meter platform in Paris, completing China’s clean sweep of every diving gold medal available. This victory marked his fourth Olympic title, solidifying his legacy in the sport. He edged out compatriots Xie Siyi and Wang Zongyuan, who also made the list of top male divers.

China’s continued excellence in diving showcases the country’s commitment to nurturing young talent and maintaining its position at the pinnacle of the sport.
