Double Earthquakes Strike Ningxia, Northwest China

Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region — Two earthquakes shook northwest China’s Ningxia region on Thursday, sending tremors through the capital city of Yinchuan. The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported that a magnitude-4.8 earthquake struck Yongning County at 10:01 a.m. Beijing Time. Later in the day, a second quake measuring 4.6 magnitude hit the same area at 4:43 p.m.

Residents felt the ground shake twice, prompting concerns but no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to stay alert for potential aftershocks.

Ningxia, located in northwest China, is known for its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The rare back-to-back quakes have drawn attention to the region’s seismic activity.

The CENC continues to track seismic movements, and emergency services are on standby to assist if necessary.
