South Korean Fishing Boat Capsizes: Three Dead, 19 Rescued

Three people have tragically lost their lives after a fishing boat carrying 22 individuals struck rocks and capsized off the southwestern coast of South Korea on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Gageo Island in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, according to reports from the South Korean Coast Guard and Yonhap News Agency. The vessel hit submerged rocks, causing it to overturn in the turbulent waters.

Rescue operations were swiftly launched by the Coast Guard and nearby vessels. Nineteen people were successfully rescued from the water, with none sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, while the identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Gageo Island, known for its rich fishing grounds, is often challenging for navigation due to hidden rocks and unpredictable sea conditions.

This tragedy highlights the dangers faced by those who work at sea and underscores the importance of maritime safety measures.
