Death Toll Rises to 95 After Powerful Earthquake Hits SW China’s Xizang

Rescuers are tirelessly searching through rubble in freezing temperatures after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze city, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday.

As of 3 p.m., the death toll has risen to 95, with 130 others injured. Official data shows that approximately 6,900 people live within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter.

A preliminary survey revealed that more than 1,000 houses have sustained varying degrees of damage, leaving many residents displaced. Emergency teams are working around the clock to locate survivors and provide aid to those affected.

The harsh weather conditions are adding to the challenges faced by rescuers and locals alike. Freezing temperatures are complicating search and rescue efforts, but teams remain determined in their mission.
