At least 95 people have lost their lives and 130 others are injured after a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze City, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, early Tuesday morning.
The quake caused significant damage to infrastructure, shaking buildings and roads in the region. Residents were jolted awake as tremors rattled the area, leading to widespread alarm and evacuations.
In response, over 3,400 rescuers and more than 340 medical workers have been deployed to the affected zones. Chinese military personnel are also actively assisting in the rescue operations, providing crucial support in search and rescue missions.
Emergency services are working tirelessly to locate survivors who may be trapped under debris and to offer medical aid to the injured. Temporary shelters have been established to accommodate those displaced by the disaster.
