China and Republic of Congo Team Up to Boost Africa’s Future

China and the Republic of Congo are teaming up to strengthen their partnership and support growth across Africa! On Tuesday, President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo met with Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, in Brazzaville to discuss their shared goals.

President Sassou was thrilled to welcome Wang Yi, sending warm New Year greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping. He talked about how President Xi’s visit to Congo in 2013—the first after taking office—was a big deal. Sassou highlighted how important Africa is becoming globally and hopes that China’s focus on the continent will inspire others to support Africa too.

He praised President Xi’s ten partnership plans from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). These plans tackle key challenges like building infrastructure, improving energy, boosting agriculture, and supporting industrialization—areas vital for the growth of Congo and other African countries. As co-chair of FOCAC, Congo is eager to make these plans happen and make China-Africa cooperation even stronger.

Wang Yi passed along President Xi’s greetings and reaffirmed China’s commitment to Africa. He called the Republic of Congo an important partner and applauded the nation’s progress under President Sassou’s leadership. Wang emphasized that starting the year with a visit to Africa shows China’s enduring solidarity with African nations.

He assured that China is ready to be Congo’s most reliable partner on its development journey. China supports Congo’s role in FOCAC and is excited to work together to achieve shared modernization goals, promote Africa’s development, and boost Congo’s role internationally.
