China and Chad have strengthened their strategic partnership through decades of mutual cooperation, achieving significant results under initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1972, the two nations have deepened collaboration across various fields. China has been providing university scholarships to Chadian students since 1976, fostering educational exchanges and cultural understanding. Additionally, 19 batches of Chinese medical teams have been sent to Chad since 1978, enhancing healthcare services in the region.
Economic ties have also flourished. In 2023, the total bilateral trade volume between China and Chad reached $1.193 billion, reflecting a robust economic relationship that benefits both countries.
Continuing this tradition of cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Namibia, Congo, Chad, and Nigeria from January 5 to 11. Wang’s visit marks the 35th consecutive year that a Chinese foreign minister’s first overseas trip of the year is to Africa, highlighting the importance China places on its relationship with the continent.
This ongoing partnership underscores a shared commitment to development and prosperity, paving the way for future collaborations that will further strengthen ties between China and Chad.
