China and UK Reignite Economic Dialogue in Beijing

China and the UK are set to reignite their economic and financial partnership with the 11th Economic and Financial Dialogue scheduled for January 11 in Beijing.

Announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Friday, the dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening ties between the two major economies. The event will be co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.

“The resumption of economic and financial dialogue between China and the UK aims to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keir Starmer,” Guo stated during a press briefing.

Established in 2008, this high-level dialogue serves as an essential platform for discussing strategic, overarching, and long-term issues in the economic and financial sectors. Topics on the table include macroeconomic policies, economic globalization, trade and investment, industrial cooperation, financial market development, and financial regulatory cooperation.

Guo emphasized the importance of the dialogue, saying, “Strengthened economic and financial exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK are in line with the interests of both countries and the expectations of all walks of life. It holds great significance for promoting economic growth and green development in both nations, and will also add certainty and inject new impetus into world economic growth.”

Expressing optimism about the upcoming talks, Guo added, “We look forward to both sides exploring the potential of cooperation through this dialogue and promoting China-UK economic and financial cooperation to achieve more pragmatic results.”
