China has reported a remarkable 25.7% decline in criminal cases in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Public Security. The announcement came on Friday, coinciding with China’s fifth National Police Day.
The ministry highlighted that cases of public security remained largely unchanged, maintaining a stable overall public safety situation across the country. Notably, road traffic safety showed consistent improvement, with no major traffic accidents reported for an impressive 63 consecutive months.
Efforts to combat food and drug safety crimes led to the resolution of over 17,000 cases nationwide. In addition, public security authorities tackled more than 78,000 economic crimes, successfully recovering financial losses amounting to 30.67 billion yuan (approximately 4.27 billion U.S. dollars).
In the ongoing fight against illegal drugs, Chinese police cracked down on 38,000 drug-related cases, seizing a total of 24.4 tonnes of various narcotics. These actions reflect China’s commitment to enhancing public safety and curbing criminal activities.
As the nation observes National Police Day, these figures serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Chinese police force in ensuring the safety and well-being of the people.
