Caracas, Venezuela — Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, Wang Dongming, attended the inauguration of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday, marking a new chapter in China-Venezuela relations.
At the invitation of the Venezuelan government, Wang, who is also the vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, met with President Maduro at the presidential palace following the inauguration ceremony.
During their meeting, Wang conveyed warm greetings and congratulations from President Xi to President Maduro on his re-election. Wang highlighted the recent elevation of China-Venezuela relations to an “all-weather strategic partnership,” a milestone announced by both leaders in September 2023.
“Our two countries have cultivated a deep-rooted friendship over the past five decades,” Wang remarked, referencing the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties celebrated last year. “China is eager to work alongside Venezuela to implement the important consensus reached by our heads of state, bolstering our traditional friendship and benefiting our peoples.”
President Maduro expressed his sincere gratitude to President Xi for sending a special envoy to the ceremony. “Venezuela places great importance on developing our all-weather strategic partnership with China,” Maduro stated. “We firmly support China in safeguarding its core interests and stand ready to enhance practical cooperation across various fields.”
Maduro emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening exchanges of governance experience and elevating bilateral relations to new heights.
The visit underscores the growing ties between China and Venezuela, as both nations seek to expand collaboration in areas such as trade, energy, and infrastructure.
