Harbin Taiping International Airport has introduced new automated border control systems, known as E-channels, to streamline arrivals and departures ahead of the upcoming ninth Asian Winter Games. The airport in Harbin, the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, officially launched the E-channels on Friday afternoon.
Passengers arriving from Seoul, the Republic of Korea, became the first to experience the quick and efficient entry process. A total of 14 E-channels have been installed, with eight designated for arrivals and six for departures. These systems enable passengers to complete border procedures swiftly, reducing wait times and easing the workload on traditional counters.
With the Asian Winter Games beginning on February 7, the Spring Festival, and the peak ice and snow tourism season approaching, the airport anticipates a significant increase in passenger traffic. The introduction of the E-channels is expected to greatly enhance efficiency and improve the travel experience for visitors from around the world.
The ninth Asian Winter Games will run from February 7 to 14, bringing athletes and spectators to Harbin for a week of exciting winter sports competitions.
