World No. 1 men’s singles badminton player Shi Yuqi delivered a stellar performance at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, securing the Chinese mainland’s only title at the event.
Shi dominated Denmark’s world No. 2 Anders Antonsen in straight sets, winning 21-8, 21-15. After the match, he expressed satisfaction with his consistent performance and emphasized his desire to continue challenging himself in future competitions.
In the women’s singles final, Wang Zhiyi of China faced South Korea’s An Se-young but was defeated 21-17, 21-7. Wang acknowledged she has much to learn from the loss and plans to adjust her mindset for upcoming tournaments.
The men’s doubles saw China’s duo Chen Boyang and Liu Yi fall to South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae with scores of 21-19, 12-21, 12-21. The women’s doubles title went to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, who overcame China’s Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian 17-21, 21-15, 21-15.
In mixed doubles, Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran clinched the championship by defeating China’s Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping 21-13, 19-21, 21-18.
