Shenyang Hosts First Ice and Snow Hotpot Festival

Shenyang’s First Ice and Snow Hotpot Festival Fires Up Winter Fun

Shenyang kicked off its inaugural Ice and Snow Hotpot Festival on Sunday, drawing a crowd of locals and tourists eager to warm up in the chilly winter weather. The highlight of the festival was a massive 4-meter diameter hotpot, brimming with a variety of broths and ingredients.

Participants gathered around the giant hotpot in Shenyang, Liaoning Province on January 12, 2025, savoring everything from tangy beef broth to the classic numbing spicy flavors that northeastern China is famous for. The sizzling steam rising from the hotpot contrasted beautifully with the frosty surroundings, creating a unique and festive atmosphere.

“The hotpot not only warms our bodies but also brings people together,” said Li Wei, a local resident attending the festival. “It’s a delightful way to celebrate our culinary traditions and enjoy the winter season.”

The Ice and Snow Hotpot Festival celebrates both the rich food culture and the unique winter traditions of northeast China. Alongside the hotpot feast, the festival features ice sculptures, traditional performances, and interactive activities, offering a full immersion into the local culture.

Organizers hope the festival will become an annual event, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond. “We wanted to create something special that showcases the charm of Shenyang in winter,” said Wang Jun, one of the event organizers. “Hotpot is more than just food; it’s a symbol of warmth and togetherness.”
