The city of Harbin in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province is gearing up to host the ninth edition of the Asian Winter Games starting on February 7. The event has breathed new life into the local economy, especially in tourism and related industries.
From Harbin Taiping International Airport to the bustling downtown area, symbols of the Asian Winter Games adorn every corner. On Central Street, one of Harbin’s main arteries, a massive official store spans 2,000 square meters, welcoming over 800 shoppers at a time. The store offers approximately 1,500 products across 21 categories, including mascot figurines, decorations, backpacks, and clothing. Items featuring the mascots—Siberian tigers Binbin and Nini—are among the most popular with visitors.
Local enthusiasm doesn’t stop there. Many students have volunteered to assist during the Games, offering services like traffic guidance, mobile phone charging stations, and distributing hot water and hand warmers to tourists braving the winter chill. “We’re happy to help make life more comfortable and convenient for visitors to Harbin,” one volunteer told China Media Group. “It’s our way of contributing to the Asian Winter Games while creating unforgettable memories.”
As the city prepares to welcome athletes and fans from across Asia, Harbin is showcasing its warmth and hospitality, ensuring everyone feels right at home during this exciting international event.
