Moscow has announced its readiness to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, aiming to address broader security concerns to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov conveyed this message during his annual press briefing on Tuesday.
Lavrov emphasized the importance of eliminating threats along Russia’s western borders, highlighting that these threats were among the root causes of the current crisis. He stressed that such challenges can only be resolved through comprehensive agreements.
Looking ahead to the change in U.S. leadership, Lavrov stated that Moscow would study the official position on Ukraine after President-elect Donald Trump takes office. He expressed optimism, noting that the incoming U.S. administration appears more focused on the realities on the ground in Ukraine, which could contribute to resolving the crisis.
The foreign minister also mentioned that President Vladimir Putin is willing to meet with Trump, though he clarified that there have been no proposals from the United States as of now.
The conflict in Ukraine has had significant implications for regional stability, and Russia’s openness to dialogue may signal a potential path toward peace.
