China Commemorates 90th Anniversary of Pivotal Zunyi Meeting
On Wednesday, the city of Zunyi in southwest China’s Guizhou Province was the center of national attention as it hosted a conference marking the 90th anniversary of the historic Zunyi Meeting. This pivotal event, held during the epic Long March (1934-1936), is celebrated for its crucial role in shaping the future of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the nation’s revolutionary journey.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the event. The conference highlighted the enduring significance of the Zunyi Meeting, calling on attendees to draw wisdom and strength from the Party’s history of struggle.
Emphasizing Independence and Self-Reliance
The speakers at the conference underscored the importance of maintaining an unwavering commitment to independence and self-reliance. They urged the nation to harness firm confidence and determination to advance the great cause of building a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.
Carrying Forward a Revolutionary Tradition
A key theme of the event was the call to carry forward the revolutionary tradition of courage in struggle and triumph. By reflecting on the challenges and victories of the past, the conference aimed to inspire a new generation to contribute to the nation’s ongoing development and to participate in the “Long March of the new era.”
A Turning Point in History
Held in January 1935, the original Zunyi Meeting is regarded as a turning point during the Long March, a strategic retreat undertaken by the Red Army to evade the pursuit of opposing forces. The decisions made at that meeting led to significant changes in the leadership and strategy of the CPC, ultimately contributing to the success of the Chinese revolution.
