The Guangsha Lions extended their winning streak to nine games, defeating the Sichuan Blue Whales 115-99 at home in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province. This victory keeps the Lions at the top of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) standings and maintains their undefeated home record of 17-0 this season.
Guangsha guard Sun Minghui was a standout performer, scoring 16 points and distributing a game-high 18 assists. His performance elevated him to sixth place on the CBA’s all-time assists list, with a total of 2,480 assists. Teammate Barry Brown contributed 11 points in the second quarter, helping the Lions secure a 59-47 lead at halftime.
The Lions established a 10-point advantage in the first quarter, leading 26-16. Despite efforts from Sichuan’s Edmond Sumner, who scored 14 points in the second quarter, the Blue Whales struggled to close the gap. Marin Maric and Wang Xinkai provided additional support in the third quarter, but the Lions outscored the Blue Whales by one point in the period.
In the final quarter, with Sumner on the bench, Sichuan’s offensive struggles resurfaced. Guangsha capitalized by giving their younger players valuable game experience. Even as the Lions maintained a substantial lead, Brown re-entered the game to help secure the victory, closing with a 13-5 run.
In other CBA action, the Guangdong Southern Tigers achieved their eighth consecutive win by defeating the Fujian Sturgeons 116-92 on the road. The Xinjiang Flying Tigers also celebrated a home victory, overcoming the Guangzhou Loong Lions 116-97.
