Harbin Ignites Flame for 2025 Asian Winter Games Amid Ice and Fire Spectacle

In a dazzling display merging ice and fire, the flame for the 2025 Asian Winter Games was ignited on Monday at the Sun Island Scenic Area in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. Despite temperatures dropping to a frosty minus-16 degrees Celsius, the flame was ignited using a convex lens, captivating spectators and highlighting the vibrant energy of winter sports.

The lighting ceremony showcased the unique theme of “Surging”, symbolizing the vitality and enthusiasm of the Games. The torch, designed to express passion for winter sports and honor friendships among athletes from across Asia, was lit by focusing sunlight through ice incorporated into the Olympic Council of Asia’s logo.

The torch relay will continue until February 6, with an online torch relay also underway, engaging participants from all over the continent. Harbin is set to host the Asian Winter Games from February 7 to 14, featuring six sports, 11 disciplines, and 64 events.

A record-breaking total of 1,275 athletes from 34 nations and regions, including first-time participants Cambodia and Saudi Arabia, have registered for Harbin 2025. Host country China will have more than 170 athletes competing, promising a thrilling showcase of talent and camaraderie in the spirit of winter sports.
