China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment has announced an ambitious set of plans to build a ‘Beautiful China’ by 2027, focusing on sustainable development and environmental improvement across urban and rural areas.
The initiative includes guidelines for launching pilot projects at regional, provincial, city, and county levels. It aims to promote the prevention and control of pollution, enhance ecological environments, and improve the wellbeing of the people.
According to the ministry, around 50 cities will be designated to implement projects in five key areas: green and low-carbon development, environmental improvement, quality of living environments, safety and health, and smart, efficient governance.
Pei Xiaofei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, stated, “We will work at our best to yield innovations in theory and practice by the end of 2027. We aim to develop demonstration models with unique characteristics that meet the expectations of the people, accumulating experience and setting examples for comprehensively promoting the construction of a ‘Beautiful China.'”
In rural areas, the plan seeks to transform 40% of counties nationwide into ‘Beautiful Rural Areas’ by 2027. This includes improving the environment in 60,000 administrative villages across the country.
The ‘Beautiful China’ initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of ecological preservation and improved living standards for all residents.
