US Companies in China Report Profits Amid Global Uncertainties

Nearly half of American companies operating in the Chinese mainland reported profits in 2024, according to a new survey, highlighting the enduring importance of China as a market despite global challenges.

The American Chamber of Commerce in China's 27th annual Business Climate Survey Report, released on Thursday, revealed that 46% of its member companies were profitable or very profitable in 2024. Another 36% broke even, while 18% reported losses.

Despite facing global geopolitical uncertainties and international regulatory challenges, US businesses continue to find opportunities in China. The survey also showed that 87% of respondents consider positive US-China relations crucial for their operations, a 5% increase from 2023.

"US-China relations remain the most consequential bilateral dynamic in the world today," said Alvin Liu, Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in China. "Understanding the perspectives of our members has never been more important. A stable and constructive relationship, grounded in economic and trade ties, is critical not only for the prosperity of our two nations but also for global economic stability."

Furthermore, China remains a significant market for US companies, with 48% of respondents ranking it as one of their top three global investment priorities.
