Movie fans, get ready! A spectacular lineup of six blockbuster films is set to light up China’s 2025 Lunar New Year box office. Unveiled on Wednesday at a special film launch event hosted by the Film Bureau of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, these movies are poised to make cinematic history.
The six films—“Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force”, “Ne Zha 2”, “Detective Chinatown 1900”, “Operation Hadal”, “Boonie Bears: Future Reborn”, and “The Legend of the Condor Heroes”—offer a diverse mix of genres and star-studded casts. With pre-sales opening on January 19, they’ve already smashed records, becoming the fastest films to surpass 100 million yuan (about $13.8 million) in pre-sales.
At the launch event, the creative teams shared exciting insights into their projects. “Creation of the Gods II” promises to continue its epic saga with even more intense battles and character development. Fans of “Ne Zha” can look forward to more humor and jaw-dropping visual effects in the sequel. “Detective Chinatown 1900” is set to bring a fresh twist to the beloved series with innovative content and a grander scale.
Breaking new ground, “Operation Hadal” will be China’s first film to explore the vast and mysterious underwater world of a nuclear submarine. For younger audiences, “Boonie Bears: Future Reborn” offers a fun and futuristic adventure. Meanwhile, “The Legend of the Condor Heroes” brings a classic tale to the big screen, blending martial arts and epic storytelling.
To make the moviegoing experience even more accessible, the event highlighted various ticket subsidy programs. Since December, a nationwide campaign has been promoting film consumption, with major banks and online ticketing platforms contributing at least 600 million yuan (about $82.6 million) in subsidies.
The event concluded with a call for audiences to enjoy the films responsibly, practice good cinema etiquette, and respect intellectual property rights. As the Lunar New Year approaches, these exciting releases promise to bring joy and entertainment to audiences across China and beyond.
