Rising in the mountains of Qinghai Province, the mighty Yellow River winds through nine provinces and autonomous regions across the Chinese mainland before meeting the sea in east China’s Shandong Province. Laden with sediment, its muddy waters deposit vast amounts of silt at its mouth, gradually extending the coastline by about two kilometers each year.
Over time, this natural process has given birth to the Yellow River Delta wetland, the youngest land formation in China. This dynamic ecosystem is a haven for wildlife, supporting a rich diversity of plant and animal species.
