Torch Relay Ignites Asian Winter Games in Harbin

The torch relay for the ninth Asian Winter Games began on Monday in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. A total of 120 torchbearers, ranging in age from 16 to 83, carried the flame through the host city’s landmarks, showcasing Harbin’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and urban charm.

Li Na, head of the Torch Relay Command Center’s Torchbearer and Volunteer Management Team, said the relay would cover approximately 11 kilometers and include a launch ceremony, closing ceremony, and community performances along the route. \”The selection of torchbearers emphasized inclusiveness, representation, and fairness,\” Li said, noting participants included representatives from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Chinese Olympic Committee, Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee, various cities across Heilongjiang Province, and sponsors.

Earlier in the day, the Asian Winter Games kicked off its first event, ice hockey. Athletes from the host nation are set to make their first appearance in the mixed doubles curling event on Tuesday.
