Chinese table tennis stars Lin Gaoyuan and Sun Yingsha have both secured spots in the round of 16 at the WTT Champions in Chongqing, delivering impressive performances on Tuesday.
Lin Gaoyuan Dominates Cho Dae-seong
Lin Gaoyuan, currently ranked No. 11 in the world, showcased his skill with a commanding 3-0 victory over South Korea’s Cho Dae-seong. Lin took control early, seizing the first game 11-5 without much resistance.
Despite Cho’s efforts to rally in the second game, narrowing Lin’s lead to 7-6, the Chinese athlete remained composed. Lin swiftly responded with a four-point run, closing out the game 11-6.
The third game saw Lin maintaining his dominance, comfortably securing the match. He now advances to face either his compatriot Liang Jinkun or Australia’s Finn Luu in the next round.
Sun Yingsha’s Narrow Escape
On the women’s side, world No. 1 Sun Yingsha survived a challenging match against Austria’s Sofia Polcanova. The Austrian player started strong, using a powerful smash to take a 9-4 lead in the first game.
However, Sun demonstrated why she’s at the top of the rankings, mounting an impressive comeback with a seven-point streak to win the first game 11-9.
Polcanova, the reigning European champion and ranked No. 14 globally, continued to put up a fight, staying close in the second game. After a lengthy rally, she trailed by just one point. But Sun held her ground, securing the game 11-7.
Sun sealed the match with an 11-8 win in the third game, earning her place in the round of 16.
Next Challenges Await
Both Lin and Sun will look to continue their strong performances as they advance deeper into the tournament, aiming for the championship title in front of their home crowd in Chongqing.
