14 Dead as Truck Hits Minibus in Western Kenya
Fourteen people lost their lives early Friday when a truck collided with a minibus on a busy highway in western Kenya, authorities have confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred around 3 a.m. local time on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, one of the country’s most frequented roads. Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri said the collision happened when the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to ram into the minibus and drag it along the road, trapping passengers inside.
“All twelve people aboard the minibus, including the driver, perished in the accident,” Muchiri stated. “Additionally, two individuals in the truck also died.” The victims comprised nine men, four women, and one child.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver lost control, leading to the devastating crash. Emergency services worked diligently to retrieve the bodies and clear the wreckage, resulting in temporary disruptions on the highway.
Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Kenya, often attributed to factors like speeding and poor road conditions. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is low.
Families of the victims are being notified, and an in-depth investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
