The 2024 Class of the China Basketball Hall of Fame was honored in a grand induction ceremony at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Sunday. The event celebrated the achievements of basketball legends who have significantly contributed to the sport in the Chinese mainland.
Esteemed figures, including previous Hall of Famers, gathered to welcome the new inductees. Li Hanting and Gong Xiaobin were recognized as outstanding male athletes, while Yang Jie and Miao Lijie received honors as outstanding female athletes. Ma Qingsheng was acknowledged as an outstanding coach, Guo Yupei as an outstanding referee, and pioneers Li Zhenzhong, Wu Chengzhang, and Huang Lie were celebrated for their foundational roles in Chinese basketball.
Miao Lijie reflected on her illustrious career, sharing memorable moments that inspired many young athletes. Gong Xiaobin displayed a scar from a fierce game in 1998 against the Republic of Korea, urging the next generation of players to strive for excellence. “Only by stepping onto the global stage can you truly represent China,” he emphasized.
This marks the third annual induction for the Hall of Fame, bringing the total to 42 individuals and three collectives. The Hall continues to preserve and promote the rich heritage of basketball in the Chinese mainland, inspiring future talents to elevate the sport further.
