Beijing’s historic Summer Palace came alive this Qingming Festival as thousands of visitors flocked to the imperial garden to celebrate spring in full bloom. Built in 1750, the UNESCO World Heritage Site captivated tourists with its stunning natural scenery and rich cultural heritage.
The three-day Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, is a time for honoring ancestors and enjoying the outdoors. This year, the palace’s pavilions, bridges, and temples provided a picturesque backdrop for both locals and tourists eager to experience traditional Chinese landscape design at its finest.
“The cherry blossoms and willows are so beautiful this time of year,” said Li Wei, a university student visiting from Shanghai. “It’s amazing to walk through the same gardens that emperors once did.”
The Summer Palace is renowned for its harmonious blend of natural beauty and classical Chinese architecture. Visitors strolled along the serene Kunming Lake, explored the ornate Hall of Benevolence and Longevity, and climbed Longevity Hill for panoramic views of the sprawling complex.
For many young people, the festival offered a chance to connect with China’s history and cultural traditions in a modern context.
“I love sharing photos of this place on social media,” said Maya, a tourist from Kenya studying in Beijing. “It’s a way to show my friends back home the beauty of Chinese culture.”
