Wang Yi Calls on China Switzerland to Safeguard Global Trade Order

China and Switzerland Join Forces to Protect Global Trade

In a bid to strengthen global economic ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Beijing on Thursday. The two leaders emphasized the importance of safeguarding international trade amid growing uncertainty worldwide.

“As strong supporters of multilateralism and free trade, China and Switzerland must work together to face the challenges of anti-globalization,” Wang Yi stated. “We need to defend the legitimate rights of all countries and ensure that the law of the jungle doesn’t rule the world again.”

Celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations, Wang Yi highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the two nations. He called for continued mutual respect and equality, urging both sides to accelerate negotiations on upgrading their free trade agreement.

Cassis echoed these sentiments, expressing Switzerland’s commitment to strengthening ties with China. “We are willing to enhance cooperation in a rational and pragmatic manner,” he said. “Under the current circumstances, the international community should join hands to defend multilateralism and free trade.”

The ministers also discussed expanding partnerships in science, technology, education, and culture. They plan to organize a series of events, including the “China-Switzerland Year of Culture and Tourism,” to promote people-to-people exchanges.

In addition, they exchanged views on pressing international issues, including the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, agreeing on the need for solidarity and communication to address global challenges.

With these commitments, China and Switzerland aim to set an example for international cooperation, focusing on mutual benefits and a shared vision for a stable global trade environment.
