China and Brazil Unite to Tackle Global Challenges, Says Wang Yi
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Tuesday that China is eager to collaborate with Brazil to protect the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and to address shared global challenges. The declaration came during his meeting with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the president of Brazil, in Brasilia.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that amid growing uncertainty and instability in the world, China and Brazil—both major developing nations and key emerging economies—should unite and cooperate. He highlighted the important role of BRICS as the “first echelon” of the Global South in promoting peace and development.
“China is willing to work with Brazil to fulfill the role of BRICS and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries,” Wang said.
Celso Amorim expressed Brazil’s readiness to strengthen ties with China. He noted that China’s firm countermeasures against unilateral protectionism have garnered understanding and admiration from many affected countries, especially those in the Global South.
“In the face of rampant unilateralism, BRICS countries should take active steps, uphold multilateralism, and work together to protect the global trading system,” Amorim stated.
The two officials also exchanged views on international issues such as the Ukraine crisis, the situation in the Middle East, and the Iranian nuclear issue, aiming to strengthen strategic communication between their nations.
