American reporter Robbie has found a unique way to connect with Russian culture from afar. With a set of colorful markers in hand, he’s breathing new life into Russia’s beloved matryoshka dolls. These nested wooden figures, known for their intricate designs and symbolic significance, have been a staple of Russian folk art for generations.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the matryoshka dolls,” Robbie says. “Each layer reveals a new story, a new character. It’s like peeling back the layers of history.”
Robbie, who works as a reporter for CGTN, began painting his own versions of the dolls, adding a modern twist to the traditional garments and rosy cheeks. His vibrant designs are a tribute to the rich culture he hopes to explore more deeply.
“One day, I hope to visit Russia in person,” he shares. “There’s so much to learn and experience. Bringing home a set of authentic nesting dolls would be a dream come true.”
