China has extended an invitation to European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for a new round of China-EU leaders’ meetings. The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Tuesday during a regular press briefing.
The invitation comes as China and the European Union (EU) mark the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties. “The most valuable experience in the 50-year development of China-EU relations is mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences,” Lin said.
He noted that both sides plan to hold high-level dialogues on strategy, economy and trade, as well as green and digital issues. A series of activities are also scheduled in the fields of economy, trade, culture, youth, sports, and academia.
Highlighting the significance of China-EU relations, Lin pointed out that the combined economic output of China and the EU accounts for over one-third of the world’s total, and their trade volume exceeds one-quarter of global trade. “As long as China and the EU choose dialogue, openness, and win-win cooperation, there will be no camp confrontation, and the trend of economic globalization will not be reversed,” he emphasized.
The upcoming meetings aim to strengthen ties between China and the EU, fostering cooperation and mutual understanding in various sectors critical to global development.
