President Xi and Putin Pledge Closer Ties, Discuss Ukraine Peace

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday, expressing readiness to strengthen cooperation and contribute to global governance. The two leaders shared a cup of tea at the Kremlin, where they discussed enhancing China-Russia relations amid a rapidly changing world.

President Xi emphasized that, despite global turbulence, strategic coordination between China and Russia could not be thwarted. “No force can stop China and Russia from achieving development and revitalization,” he stated, highlighting their commitment to a multipolar world and economic globalization.

President Putin echoed these sentiments, expressing his willingness to maintain close strategic communication with President Xi. He underscored the importance of safeguarding the common interests of both nations and promoting a just, democratic, and multipolar global landscape.

The leaders also tackled the Ukraine crisis, with President Xi advocating for a comprehensive and sustainable security approach. “It’s crucial to address the legitimate security concerns of all countries and eliminate the root causes of the crisis,” he said. China welcomes efforts that contribute to peace and hopes for a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement acceptable to all parties involved.

President Putin praised China’s objective stance on resolving the crisis. He expressed Russia’s readiness to engage in peace talks without preconditions and aspired to reach a just and lasting peace deal.

President Xi is in Russia to attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, reinforcing historical ties between the two nations.
