China has expressed its readiness to support and facilitate a ceasefire between Pakistan and India amid escalating tensions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed this message during a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on Saturday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s concern over the growing conflict between the neighboring countries. “As a neighbor of both Pakistan and India, China is concerned about the escalation of the conflict between the two countries,” Wang said.
He affirmed China’s willingness to play a constructive role in easing tensions and urged both sides to seek a peaceful resolution. “China hopes for and supports an early ceasefire between Pakistan and India, and is willing to continue playing a constructive role in this regard,” Wang added.
Dar expressed Pakistan’s commitment to achieving a ceasefire and maintaining sovereignty. “Pakistan is willing to achieve a ceasefire with India and will respond to any acts that violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he stated.
Highlighting Pakistan’s role in combating terrorism, Wang acknowledged the country’s efforts. “Noting that Pakistan stands on the front line of the international fight against terrorism, China supports its continued, firm counterterrorism efforts,” he said.
The conversation between the two officials underscores the regional complexities and the importance of dialogue in promoting peace. China’s involvement could be a significant step towards de-escalating tensions and fostering stability in South Asia.
