The quake occurred at 5:11 a.m. local time, with the epicenter at 28.91 degrees north latitude and 87.54 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 10 kilometers, the CENC reported.

Residents in Lazi County felt strong tremors that woke many from their sleep. “The shaking was intense and lasted several seconds,” said a local resident.

In response, local authorities swiftly activated emergency measures. Townships are currently assessing the impact, and fire and rescue teams have been dispatched to the epicenter to provide assistance.

As of now, officials are still gathering information on any building damage or casualties resulting from the quake.

Situated near the collision boundaries of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, Xizang Autonomous Region is prone to earthquakes. Authorities regularly conduct preparedness drills to enhance community readiness.
