The National Museum of China is bringing the country’s ancient history to a new generation with the release of its latest book, “The History of Ancient China in 115 Objects.” This captivating publication showcases 115 invaluable artifacts, each accompanied by detailed descriptions and engaging stories that bridge the gap between the past and the present.
Written by nine museum educators and reviewed by more than twenty scholars, the book transforms complex archaeological data into narratives that are accessible to all readers. It delves into the origins and development of Chinese civilization, offering insights into the cultural and historical significance of each artifact.
“We wanted to create a work that not only presents historical facts but also connects with readers on a personal level,” said one of the authors. “By telling the stories behind these objects, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for our rich heritage.”
The book is a visual feast, featuring nearly 700 high-quality images, a network of 350 related artifacts, as well as interactive 3D models and videos. This multimedia approach allows readers to explore the artifacts in unprecedented detail.
In addition to the book, the museum has developed over 60 cultural products, including stationery, toys, and magnets inspired by the relics. These items aim to bring the artifacts to life, making history tangible for younger audiences.
This innovative integration of exhibitions, publications, and cultural products reflects the museum’s commitment to promoting Chinese cultural heritage and fostering creativity. By connecting ancient treasures with modern life, the National Museum of China is ensuring that the stories of the past continue to inspire future generations.
