China’s Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday condemned the United States for its attempts to impose a global ban on advanced Chinese computing chips, including those made by tech giant Huawei. The ministry urged the U.S. to “correct its wrongdoings immediately,” calling the measures a case of “unilateral bullying and protectionism” that could harm global semiconductor supply chains.
The U.S. Department of Commerce recently issued guidelines aiming to globally restrict advanced Chinese computing chips, citing presumed violations of U.S. export control rules. In response, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce stated that such actions not only undermine international trade norms but also deprive other nations of the right to develop in high-tech industries like artificial intelligence.
“The United States is abusing export controls to restrain and suppress China, which violates international law and basic norms of international relations,” the spokesperson said. “These measures severely harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and undermine China’s development interests.”
China warned that any organizations or individuals implementing or assisting with the U.S. measures could be violating Chinese laws and may be held legally accountable. The ministry emphasized the importance of innovation-driven development and mutual cooperation as prevailing global trends.
“We urge the United States to immediately correct its wrongdoings, abide by international economic and trade rules, and respect other countries’ legitimate rights to scientific and technological development,” the spokesperson added.
China expressed its support for global enterprises engaging in scientific and technological cooperation based on market principles to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. The ministry stated that it would closely monitor the situation and take resolute actions to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
