CMG’s ‘Surface’ Wins Golden Award at Global Sports Media Event

China Media Group (CMG) has clinched the prestigious Golden Award in the Video Short Feature category for its compelling piece ‘Surface’ at the 87th Association of International Press in Sports (AIPS) Congress held in Morocco this week.

Produced and directed by Cheng Jieni from the CMG Sports & Youth Center, ‘Surface’ offers an intimate portrayal of the Chinese artistic swimming team’s journey. The film captures their trials, triumphs, perseverance, and ultimate glory as they pursued Olympic gold in Paris last summer, documenting their historic victory through an exclusive lens.

Standing out among a record-breaking 2,065 entries from 135 countries and regions, ‘Surface’ underscores CMG’s commitment to excellence in sports journalism and highlights China’s growing influence in global sports culture.

“This year, we’ve received an outstanding number of 2,065 submissions, a record-breaking number,” said Nadine Alsheikh Hassan, AIPS Asia & MENA Media Coordinator. “In addition, with participation from 135 countries and regions, there is no award bigger than this one for sports journalists.”

The Golden Awards were presented across eight categories, with ‘Surface’ earning top honors in the Video Short Feature category after multiple rounds of rigorous judging. In total, 24 works were shortlisted, reflecting the high standard and global reach of the competition.

CMG’s achievement with ‘Surface’ not only celebrates the success of the Chinese artistic swimming team but also showcases the power of storytelling in sports, inspiring audiences around the world.
