Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has pledged China’s continued support for Afghanistan in its pursuit of long-term peace and stability. During a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday with Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Wang emphasized China’s commitment to strengthening ties and cooperation between the two countries.
“China respects Afghanistan’s independence, sovereignty, and the independent choices made by its people,” Wang Yi said. “We never interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, seek personal gains, or desire a sphere of influence. We are ready to carry forward our traditional friendship, enhance political mutual trust, and deepen practical cooperation to benefit our countries and contribute to regional peace and stability.”
Wang outlined China’s plans to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, energy and mining, poverty reduction, disaster prevention, talent training, health care, and security. He also expressed China’s intention to import more quality products from Afghanistan and continue supporting its reconstruction and development efforts.
Muttaqi expressed gratitude for China’s support, stating that the Afghan government highly values its friendship with China. “We adhere to the one-China principle and oppose interference in China’s internal affairs,” he said. “Afghanistan will never allow any force to use our territory to engage in activities that endanger China.”
He called for strengthened security cooperation, a crackdown on violent crimes, and safeguarding China’s interests in Afghanistan. The meeting signifies a continued partnership aimed at fostering stability and growth in the region.
