The death toll from two landslides in southwest China’s Guizhou Province has risen to four, with 17 people still missing, the provincial government reported on Thursday.
The separate landslides struck Changshi and Guowa townships in Dafang County, which is under the administration of the city of Bijie. The incident in Changshi township trapped two people, while the one in Guowa township left 19 individuals unaccounted for.
Local authorities are continuing search and rescue operations in the affected areas. Details about the cause of the landslides have not been released.
Landslides are a common hazard in mountainous regions, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
