Ukraine Says 15 Injured in Russian Missile drone Attack on Its Capital

Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Hits Kyiv, Injuring 15

Early Saturday, Russian forces unleashed a massive barrage of ballistic missiles and drones on Kyiv, leaving at least 15 people injured and causing widespread damage across the Ukrainian capital, according to the city’s military administration.

The assault, described as one of the largest air attacks on Kyiv since the conflict began, struck both residential and non-residential areas in six of the city’s ten districts. Local police reported that a shopping mall, several apartment buildings, and an educational facility were among the damaged sites.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia deployed 14 Iskander ballistic missiles and 250 drones in the overnight offensive, with Kyiv as the primary target. Air defenses successfully intercepted six missiles and 245 drones, preventing potentially greater devastation.

This attack follows a Russian strike on the port infrastructure in the southern city of Odesa on Friday, where two ballistic missiles killed three people and injured six others, according to Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper.

In response to the escalating assaults, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the United States, Europe, and other nations to impose new sanctions on Russia. “Only additional sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy will force Moscow to cease fire,” Zelenskyy stated on the social media platform X.
